Inspirere Paints Art on the Walk

Inspirere’s founder and creative, Sahar Sharif, displayed some artwork for the first time on Dubai’s art scene last weekend.

The exhibition showcased a number of locally and regionally based artists who will be part of the Art on the Walk initiative from November 2015 to March 2016 as an attempt to make Dubai more culturally happening.

Our first exhibition for the season was from November 19th-21st which turned out to be way better than expected..

The artwork which seemed to have attracted people most was my funny puns and observations on Dubai’s ethnic blends and dubenglish signs..a theme which I made just for laughs but it seems as if this is a memory which can be created and is a part of what many in Dubai experience and remember with fondness. The Melting pot and how we learnt to cope.

Check out the photos and let us know what you think.

A special thanks to all the friends who visited and publicized, to Colin Bullard for curating and tirelessly supporting me in all the errands to make this possible, to my mom, Raziya, for getting my hooks at the last minute, to Ahmed Rukni and Aloka for helping me sell the pieces.

And to Atif, who represented DNV GL by trying his hand out at the workshop.

You are all amazing- no man is an island, without you all this wouldn’t have been possible, thank you!

Note- pictures 5,6 and the fridge magnets are fellow artists art pieces that I was truly inspired by and hope to incorporate their techniques out 😊

The COTGO project officially launched at City Walk Dubai

The Creativity on the Go project was officially launched last weekend at City Walk, Dubai’s Art on the Walk outdoor exhibition. Along with about 15 displays of emerging artists works, we conducted workshops for children and adults to unleash their creative skills-

It was amazing to see what all people came up with and how!

From felines to bottles, these kids could do it all!

Then came the adults, abstraction with Arabic calligraphy. A special thanks to my colleague and great friend Mohammed Atif, who runs the Energy Department at DNV GL.

The Dubai Art Fans team, with all their great organization and all these awesome people Art on the Walk and Launching my first COTGO workshop would not have been possible!

In collaboration with COTGO, I had my artwork on display as part of Art on the walk. My creative style relies on both art creation and Art Education..

Do and teach others to do is the first thing people took back with the workshop. Teach through art.

Stay tuned for more…

The COTGO Project

More often than not, when we want to capture the memory of something- we pull out our smartphones and CLICK- The memory is created!

But then, how long does that memory last?  And doesn’t just everyone do that?

How about creating memories in a different way, through art?

A devil’s advocate may say, art making requires a lot of material and a lot of time- “not this project”…I piped up. “Creativity On the Go, or COTGO for short, needs a notebook , a pencil, eraser and a set of 0 point black markers to create your masterpieces. All of which can be easily carried in a backpack…how about that?”

The idea for the COTGO project came about at Dubai’s Downtown Design fair and at the Akinbe stall,  where it was observed that not enough emphasis is given to Dubai’s multicultural neighborhoods. And this is where we would like to invite people to apply their skills and talent- to create an evolution of an iconic city on the go- with creativity on the Go- from multicultural talent- illustrated within the multicultural neighborhoods.

From Akinbe’s drawings I got inspired and remembered my own…from yesteryear..

And said, we need to revive these again, but this time with a purpose!

The Newest Mixed Media Art class in Dubai

Coming up this Saturday Morning, the 13th of June:

An awesome mixed media collage class given by one of Dubai’s pioneering artists, Tina Ahmed. Her art can be found in many iconic places of the city, including the Emirates Airlines Business Class Lounges in Terminal 3.

I know where I’m going this weekend! Who’s up for joining me?

collage art class in dubai

It was 10:10 am that Saturday, and I thought was super late..turns out everyone was just rolling in, Dubai Standard time…

We begun with some lovely color meditation which was really soothing…and color did center me-and helped in the process of creating some awesome art (in my opinion at least)

In the course of 5 hours, we learnt 3 techniques of mixed media:

Canvas transfer

Tissue transfer

Paper/Glossy magazine transfer…

I think i found a new artsy technique to play around with and create some more new funky pieces. Thank you Tina and everyone for the wonderful time! We definitely need more of such workshops…
